Our focus is using mostly drought tolerant California natives or climate appropriate plants - especially ones that are also pollinator friendly, medicinal or edible.

MELISSA AVELAR

Landscape Designer / Business Owner

Melissa, a Humboldt County native, has always had an aptitude for artful design and a love for nature. She enjoys traveling, the outdoors, music, dancing, and cooking flavorful healthy food - it does exist! Building upon her creative background as an Artist, she earned a double-degree in Landscape Architecture and Landscape Design and Construction from Merritt College, in Oakland, CA.

Her interest in plants also encompasses the field of Herbal Medicine, and in 2016 she studied under renowned herbalist, Jane Bothwell. She has found that a balanced and well-designed garden can provide a peaceful place of retreat, as well as helping to support a happy and healthy lifestyle.

Having found a career that perfectly combines her interests and skills, Melissa takes pride in her work, and sees potential for beauty and healing in every garden.
